Tell the U.S. Senate: No vacation until you pass prescription drug price reform

We're days away from Congress leaving Washington for its August recess, but there's still a smart solution to high drug prices on the table. A strong compromise has been worked out, and now we need to see it passed.

Drug prices are high and continue to rise every year. Too often, even with insurance, Americans simply don't have enough money to cover the cost of their medication, in addition to all of the other goods and services they need.

This isn't surprising when you consider that on average, Americans pay two to three times as much as people in other countries for the same medicines.

You have a strong compromise solution on the table that is broadly supported by Americans: the right for the federal government to negotiate for lower drug prices. With no other check on the rising prices of drugs, millions of Americans skip doses or leave their prescriptions unfilled. You can change that this week by voting for this commonsense drug price reform.

There's a lot at stake in this debate: Negotiated drug prices, along with other measures, are projected to yield savings from lower drug prices of more than $280 billion over 10 years.

That is dramatic financial relief. You shouldn't wait another day to vote for this change and help Americans get the medications they need.

Please support drug pricing legislation that allows broad negotiating power for Medicare drugs, and please vote on it before you leave for August recess.
