Tell your senators: Support the Fair Elections Now Act

Our senators are deciding right now whether to support the Fair Elections Now Act. Will you call them to make sure they're standing against Citizens United?

Here are their numbers:

Sen. Jeff Flake
(202) 224-4521

Sen. John McCain
(202) 224-2235

Never contacted your senator’s office before? Here’s what to do:

Step #1: Either call your senator’s office directly (phone numbers listed above) or call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121.

Step #2: You probably won’t get your senator on the line, but you’ll likely talk to an aide who will ask for your name, town and ZIP code. It helps them know that you’re one of the people they represent. If you’d like your senator to follow up directly, it can help to leave your full address.

Step #3: Explain why you think it’s a problem that big money is drowning out the voices of regular Americans in our democracy. We’d probably say something about how Super PACs have spent nearly half a billion dollars for the 2016 elections, how Americans across the political spectrum overwhelmingly support overturning Citizens United, or how in 2012, 84 percent of House candidates who outspent their opponents in the general election went on to win.

Step #4: Tell them that you want the senator to support the Fair Elections Now Act, which would change the way our elections are financed by allowing candidates to run a campaign that relies on small contributions, and not just big-money donations.

That’s it! Make sure you reach out to both senators -- we need to make sure this bill has as much support as possible. And then tell us how it went by filling out the form on this page.
